You quickly get all the equipment together. Her blood pressure continues to fall. Only seconds before you insert the chest tube, she has an asystolic cardiac arrest. The nurses start CPR whilst you continue with insertion of the chest tube. When the chest tube enters the pleural space, a lot of air deflates. CPR is successful, her blood pressure recovers. Later you wonder whether it would have been quicker to perform a quick needle thoracentesis before inserting a chest tube. (See card: Pulmonary Barotrauma)
