No definite treatment has been shown to have significant effect on the course of ARDS. Some studies have demonstrated that the combination of prone ventilation and NO-inhalation sometimes has an additive effect on oxygenation. Some non-responders to the prone position have also been shown to respond to NO and some patients do not respond to either mode.
