| As Art points out in the editorial that accompanies the Gattinoni trial, the biggest limitation of the current trial is probably the severity of illness of the patients who were entered into this trial (they didn't have very severe respiratory failure). At our hospital (RNSH) proning is only used in patients who have extremely poor gas exchange and are not responding to other interventions. The patients in Gattinoni's trial had relatively good gas exchange and probably wouldn't have been proned in our hospital. From this perspective, it is possible that Gattinoni's trial doesn't properly reflect how proning is currently used in practice. | |
